Ten grams do not call for a ceremonial table. A well-kept tin, a suitable spoon and a few minutes without distractions are enough. This small size lets you discover caviar's texture and flavour without organising a celebration. It also asks you to make one useful choice: taste it slowly on your own, or share a very small sample.

Before you open it

Check the date and storage instructions on the pack. Have a cold support, a mother-of-pearl spoon or another non-reactive utensil, and some water ready. Leave accompaniments aside for now. If you will share the tin, plan the small portions before lifting the lid so you do not interrupt the moment or keep it out of the cold for longer than necessary.

An article cannot give one temperature that fits every tin: the instructions on your own label are the reference. Nor should you open the pack to inspect it before deciding when to eat it. Prepare the tasting, then open it when you are ready to enjoy it.

Taste the first spoonful alone

Serve a small amount and look at whether the pearls remain distinct. As you taste, notice their initial resistance, how they yield and the flavour left afterwards. You do not need a borrowed description. ‘Gentle at first, more intense at the end’, or the opposite, is useful enough if it reflects what you actually perceive.

If a few grams remain, try a second spoonful and see whether it confirms your first impression. Only then add a simple base if you wish. That comparison teaches you more than covering the caviar from the start with familiar flavours.

Sharing ten grams?

Between two people, that is 5 g each: an introduction, not a generous appetiser. With more guests, the sample becomes very small. If you want a conversation around several spoonfuls, calculate another size before buying. The tin's weight describes quantity, not a different quality grade within the same selection.

What comes next

Note what you liked: the texture, intensity and how long the flavour stayed with you. Those words can help you decide whether to repeat the size, move to a larger tin or seek a tasting where you can compare impressions. A first time need not settle your opinion. It can simply begin a taste of your own.
