A first spoonful, on its own and properly chilled, is the best way to get to know caviar. Before opening the tin, it helps to know which species you are choosing, how much you need and how to keep it cold until serving. This guide takes you from the label to the table, leaving the first taste to speak for itself.

First, know what is in the tin

Beluga comes from the Huso huso sturgeon. The species is a specific reference; commercial terms such as “premium” do not replace it. The size, sheen or colour of the pearls alone are not enough to identify it either. In Cofré's selection, the tasting centres on the delicate resistance of the pearl and the depth of flavour it leaves as it yields.

Reading the label without the guesswork

The CITES system makes it possible to trace the identity and provenance of caviar. Its label contains codes for the species, source, country, year and establishment, as well as a lot identifier. HUS identifies Huso huso. This information is not a culinary rating: it helps you understand what the tin contains and where it comes from.

Also check the net weight, date and storage instructions on the packaging. Distinguish the origin of the caviar from the place where it was packed. If information is missing, ask the seller to clarify it before buying.

The right amount for your table

  • 10 g: a first tasting to get to know the texture and flavour.
  • 50 g: a more substantial tasting. Shared between two people, that is 25 g per person.
  • 125 g: for sharing when caviar plays a prominent role at the table. Among five people, it allows 25 g for each person.
  • 250 g and 500 g: sizes for larger gatherings. Calculate the amount according to the guests, the menu and how central you want the caviar to be.

These divisions are examples for planning, not prescribed servings. Choose an amount you can enjoy after opening the tin. Several smaller tins may work better when guests arrive at different times.

A tin to taste; a gift box to give

An individual tin lets you choose a size based on how much caviar you want to serve. The gift boxes add a presentation for gifting: El del caviar contains 50 g and two mother-of-pearl spoons; El del gran caviar contains 125 g and four spoons. Check each product page for the exact contents, current price and delivery conditions.

Keep it cold, serve it with mother-of-pearl

Keep the tin refrigerated and always follow the temperature and date indicated on its label. Prepare the table before opening it and serve the caviar cold, keeping the tin on ice during the tasting. A mother-of-pearl spoon or another non-reactive utensil lets you serve it gently.

Your first taste can be on its own: take a small amount and pay attention to the texture and the flavour that lingers. Afterwards, a simple accompaniment lets you compare sensations without masking the product. Open the tin when you intend to eat it and follow the packaging's specific instructions for storage after opening.

Know the details before you buy

  • A product page that clearly states the species, weight, contents and price. A tin and a gift box with accessories are different presentations.
  • Shipping conditions for your destination, and whether you can receive the order and refrigerate it on arrival.
  • A contact you can ask about a special date, a gift or an order for several people.

Questions before the first bite

What does 000 mean?

000 is part of Cofré's commercial name Imperial Beluga iraní 000. To identify the species and provenance, consult the full labelling; this name does not replace the traceability details.

Is a larger size better quality?

The weight indicates quantity. Choose among the sizes in the same selection according to the number of people and how you intend to serve it, without treating the tin size as a quality grade.

How do I choose the best caviar for my occasion?

Start with an identified species, clear provenance and proper storage. Then decide according to your taste: the texture and nuances you enjoy matter more than a generic claim of superiority. A guided tasting lets you explore those differences before planning a celebration.

Caviar for a dinner, tasting or event

Cofré brings its caviar selection together with private tastings and service for celebrations. If you already know how much you want, explore the tins and gift boxes. If you want to discover nuances or plan an experience for guests, ask the team about the format, place and date. The choice begins with how you want to share it.
